One of the reasons visitors flock to Phuket for the perfect holiday is because of the stunning scenery, natural beauty, paradisiacal atmosphere and the haunting surrounding islands. Another by product of this is Phuket as an in demand filming location for films, documentaries and t.v. programs. Here are a few of our favourite films, and where you can find the locations on Phuket Island.
The Man with the Golden Gun:
Perhaps the most famous film filmed near Phuket thanks to the iconographic location, Koh Khao Phing Kan, also known as James Bond Island. This site was the lair of Scaramanga in the film, and thousands of James Bond fans flock to the site every year.
The Beach:
This film about a mysterious beach was filmed on the island of Koh Phi Phi and Maya bay. This film was based on a sucessful book, and although it starred Leonardo DiCaprio the amazing scenery stole the film.
The Killing Fields:
The film focuses on the terrors of the Khmer Rouge regime in Cambodia and is based on the experiences of 2 jounalists. The film features the French and American Embassies in Phuket Town.
Casualties of War:
This harsh Vietnam War movie used locations in Kanchanburi, Phang Nga and Phuket when filming in 1989, as filming in Vietnam was impossible at the time due to the strict political regime. It starred famous 80's and 90's actors Sean Penn and Michael J. Fox.
Good Morning Vietnam:
This 1989 film starring Robin Williams was set in Vietnam but actually most of the jungle scenes were filmed in Phuket for the same reasons as above.
Heaven and Earth:
This film tells the true story of a Vietnamese village girl who survives a life of suffering and hardship during and after the Vietnam war. The film used Chinpracha House in Phuket Town.
